De père menuisier et de mère couturière, Albert Uriet entre en apprentissage chez un marchand de cycles à Fontenay-aux-Roses, puis fréquente l’École des Arts décoratifs de la rue d’Ulm, à Paris. Après une exposition à la Galerie André, rue des Saints-Pères, il entre chez Ruepp, atelier de meubles d’un Suisse allemand installé rue Bergère. Pendant la guerre de 1914-1918, Albert Uriet est mobilisé etse lie d’amitié avec Jean Paulhan, qu’il illustre en 1917. Il entre après la guerre chez Deberny-Peignot (fonderie de caractères typographiques) et se lie avec l’affichiste Cassandre. En 1920, Uriet devient secrétaire de rédaction de la Vie. Il travaille en 1825 aux illustrations du Grand Meaulnes d’Alain-Fournier, et se spécialise ensuite dans l’illustration pour enfants de la collection « Pour tous » (Mame), y publiant aussi quatre contes dont il est l’auteur et l’illustrateur. Pendant l’Occupation, le clergé de Bretagne ayant mis « Les Grandes heures de la Duchesse Anne de Nantes » à l’abri à la cathédrale de Tours, la maison Mame, en accord avec l’archevéché, s’inspire de ce joyau pour réaliser un missel dont l’illustration est confiée à Albert Uriet. En 1943-1944, celui-ci travaille également aux illustrations en couleurs des ouvrages de Karl May. Il imprime « Les bois de l’imagerie populaire de la collection René Saulnier » en seize exemplaires, en utilisant les caractères typographiques anciens de sa collection personnelle.
